Are Plastic Pallets Sustainable?

In this day and age, sustainability is among the top priorities for businesses as companies and consumers alike become increasingly environmentally conscious. As a result, plastic is rapidly being shunned from multiple industries since it isn’t deemed sustainable. It’s for this reason that Inka Pallets only use and stock pallets that are 100% recyclable at the end of their life. This is inclusive of our plastic pallets, alongside our Presswood pallets and wooden pallet blocks. Regardless of which of our products you opt for, you can be sure that your company will fulfil its eco-duties when purchasing from Inka Pallets.

This is inclusive of our plastic pallets, alongside our Presswood pallets and wooden pallet blocks. Low Carbon Emissions

One of the perks of our plastic pallets is their market leading nestability which subsequently results in lower carbon emissions. This boils down to the transportation of the material as their nestable quality means that they can be shipped in larger loads. In fact, plastic pallets can be transported and stored in stacks of 70 units, as opposed to wooden pallets that generally can only be transported and stored in stacks of 15. As a result, fuel consumption is reduced, and the emission of greenhouse gases is minimised.

The same can be said for our Presswood pallets as they share this nestable quality, giving them an edge over their solid wood counterparts. Despite this, they’re still crafted from the same natural materials, meaning no harmful chemicals are used in their production.

Long Lifespans

During their lifespan, heavy-duty plastic pallets are expected to make between 80 and 120 trips. Consequently, less energy is required to harvest and manufacture materials and repair damaged pallets. Similarly, this contributes to the reduction of carbon emissions because fewer materials will require transportation in the process.

Reduced Deforestation

Quite simply, the production of our plastic pallets requires no wood at all, meaning no trees are cut down or harmed in the process. Additionally, our Presswood pallets are made solely from recycled wood waste, once again meaning no trees are sacrificed in the production of these products. On top of this, our recycled pallet blocks are also made from reused material, further reducing the overwhelming deforestation statistics.

In 2016 alone, roughly five billion board feet of wood was used to produce pallets, which equates to a loss of millions of trees. At Inka Pallets, we have made it our mission not to contribute to this staggering figure.

Pest Prevention

Plenty of insects feed on solid wood products such as pallets; however, this isn’t the case when it comes to plastic or Presswood pallets. Not only are pest outbreaks detrimental to a business from a financial perspective, but they also result in health hazards for workers. Therefore, it’s best to avoid the possibility of these problems arising where possible.

Limited Chemical Treatments

As previously mentioned, solid timber pallets attract pests, but on top of this, they’re prone to growing fungi and mould. In order to prevent this, solid timber pallets are often dosed with toxic chemicals that are harmful to the environment. However, neither plastic or Presswood pallets require treatment to maintain and protect them. Consequently, shopping with Inka Pallets is a great way to minimise the number of toxic chemicals being pumped into the earth.

Recyclable

Finally, nearly all our pallets are crafted from wholly recyclable materials, whilst every one of our pallets can be recycled at the end of their lifetime. The environmental advantages of our products are endless, so look no further than Inka Pallets.
